Před měsícem bylo potvrzeno, že třetí Top Gun je oficiálně v přípravě pod scenáristickým dohledem Ehrena Krugera a produkcí v čele s Jerrym Bruckheimerem a Davidem Ellisonem. V současnosti je potvrzený návrat Toma Cruise (Pete „Maverick“ Mitchell), Milese Tellera (Bradley „Rooster“ Bradshaw) a Glena Powella (Jake „Hangman“ Seresin).

O znovu účast stojí i herec Danny Ramirez, který ztvárnil Mickeyho „Fanboye“ Garcia. Při příležitosti oznámení příprav nového Top Gunu prozradil, že by byla čest být pozván zpět při natáčení třetího dílu. Zatím stále není jasné, kdy bychom se snímku mohli dočkat, a kdo jej zrežíruje. Přípravy také závisí na Tomu Cruisovi, jenž je časově velmi vytížený kvůli dalším projektům.
